Casey Tech School is opening the Makerspace to Teachers & Chisholm Institute staff members in term 2. 

These fortnightly sessions aim to empower you with the skills and knowledge to effectively use cutting-edge equipment and embed them into your classroom practice. The focus of the workshop will be on developing and producing 2D or 3D design concepts.

You will receive hands on training in the application of both design software and hardware tools, enabling you to create and produce exceptional designs and bring those skills to your students.

The Makerspace houses a wide array of state-of-the-art resources, including:

• Laser Cutter
• 3D Printer
• Wasp 3D printer
• Resin Printer
• Sublimation printer and heat press
• Large format UV printer
• Cricut machine
• Industrial Digital Embroidery Machine

 

Our expert facilitators will be present to guide and upskill you, ensuring you leave with practical knowledge and confidence in utilising these innovative tools in the classroom.

Tired of writing basic Python scripts that only show dull black-screen outputs? Still stuck on printing “Hello World!”? It is time to level up! Join us for an exciting two-day journey where you will learn to build fully functional software using Python – with a clear, user-friendly interface.

This holiday program is perfect for students who already have a basic understanding of Python or can follow simple Python scripts. It you are completely new to coding and the word “Python” does not ring a bell, this may not be the right program for you.

Program Details:

Day 1:

• Set up your Python development environment using VS Code and UV
• Explore Python GUI development using the Flet package
• Learn how APIs work and how to integrate them with your Python projects
• Begin working on your software project
•  

Day 2:

• Continue building and refining your software
• Learn how to package your software into a standalone executable
• Share your software with others and run it on any Windows machine

Professional Learning Day for Secondary Educators

Join us for a hands-on professional development session designed to boost your skills in image editing and manipulation using industry-relevant tools and techniques. This 4.5-hour workshop introduces you to the engaging world of composite photography through a creative, classroom-ready project.

Working in small groups, you’ll learn how to plan, capture, and edit photos using a green screen studio and a range of accessible software tools— such as Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Photopea, and Adobe Express. You’ll explore industry relevant techniques in non-destructive editing such as background removal, adjustment layers, and visual blending techniques to create compelling cinematic “scenes” from pop culture, literature, or film.

This session not only enhances your technical proficiency but also equips you with practical strategies to foster creativity, and collaboration in your students. 

Perfect for teachers of Media Arts, Digital Technologies, and Visual Arts. Step behind the camera, dive into post-production, and bring big-screen creativity to your classroom!

Casey Tech School is offering a unique opportunity for Teachers of Media to obtain first-hand, practical experience being part of a broadcast-standard, multi-camera studio team.

You’ll be able to learn and experience areas including: multi-channel studio audio, live on-air media playback, direction, camera operation, floor manager duties and others.

Training will take place using our in-house TV studio over one day (9:30am to 3pm).

The morning will be used to introduce all of the various studio and control room roles, discuss standard broadcast TV procedures and to assemble a production team with assigned roles. We will also have some practice time allowing the team to get used to their positions and discover how to work together as a production unit.

In the afternoon we have the fun and exciting task of recording a multi-camera, multi-media program ‘Live To Tape’ - a term still used in broadcast indicating that the program has no editing – it is recorded as a ‘Live’ program!

This PD is designed to provide Teachers of Media an experience that our TV studio programs can offer their students.
